Lightsaber Hilt on a Pool Noodle - Free Pattern

This type of project has been on my "Want To Do" list for quite some time! I saw a great deal on some pool noodles at my local grocery store and already had the yarn I wanted to use. This non-slip Lightsaber Hilt pattern makes for soft play for the Jedis and Siths in your life. My kids loved whacking each other without any tears so I'd say this project was a win!

• magic ring
• inc: increase - put two stitches in one stitch
• dec: decrease - pull two stitches into one stitch
• sl st: slip stitch - back to the starting stitch
• bobble - instructions in pattern

Gauge: 4" x 4"
8 sc x 7 rows

You'll need:

• Hook: L/8mm
• Yarn: Blanket yarn in gray, black, and red - weight: 5/bulky
• Tapestry needle
• Stitch markers
• Scissors
• 2" diameter Pool Noodle cut in half - mine were 28" long each after getting halved

PATTERN

Keep these colors for a JEDI lightsaber; change grey to black and black to grey in this pattern for a SITH lightsaber

Rd 1: magic ring sc 6, sl st , ch 1 (6)
Rd 2: inc x 6, sl st, ch 1 (12)
Rd 3: (inc, sc) x 6, sl st, ch 1 (18)
Rd 4: front loop only, sc 16, dec, sl st, ch 1 (17)
Rd 5: in both loops, sc 17, sl st, ch 1
Rd 6: sc, bobble *([yarn over, insert stitch, yarn over, pull through] x 4, yarn over, pull through all 9 loops)*, (sc 2, bobble) x 5, sl st, ch 1 (17)
Rd 7 - Rd 10: sc 17, sl st, ch 1 (17)
Rd 11: change to black, sc 17, sl st, ch 1 (17)
Rd 12: change to grey, sc 17, sl st, ch 1 (17)
Rd 13: repeat Rd 11
Rd 14: repeat Rd 12
Rd 15: repeat Rd 11
Fasten off black, cut yarn, weave in ends
Rd 16: repeat Rd 12
Rd 17: sc 17, sl st, ch 1

BUTTON PANEL
In black, Ch 5
R 1: in 2nd ch from hook, sc 4, ch 1, turn
R 2 - R 4: sc 4, ch 1, turn
R 5: sc 4
Fasten off, leave tail for weaving on to lightsaber HILT

BUTTON
​In red, magic ring 5, sl st to starting stitch
​Fasten off, leave tail for weaving on to BUTTON PANEL

ATTACHING
Center BUTTON on BUTTON PANEL and whip stitch around to secure it to the BUTTON PANEL

Place BUTTON PANEL centered over the color changing transition stitches you did, whip stitch around to secure it to the lightsaber HILT Fasten off, weave in tail
Slide on to pool noodle
