Praise the nerds who reach out to me and hire me for commissions. This Paper Mario-inspired mallet is only 4 inches tall and will perfectly rest on my new friend's desk. It took 5 hours to conceptualize and create because I only had a reference picture. I also added some plastic canvas for structure. Hopefully, this weapon will be used as a fun prop in Zoom meetings. I can only imagine.

“You Know What I Love About Appa The Most? His Sense Of Humor.” - Sokka "Failure is only the opportunity to begin again. Only this time, more wisely.” - Uncle Iroh Flameo Hotman! I've started working on my APPA-inspired pattern. Yarn color has been figured out and purchased. The hope is he will be 24" long, 9" tall, 7" wide, and 100% soft with no-chokable counter-parts. After drinking some cactus juice, I've got one foot figure out and completed! The most tedious part was making the 18 little paw pads and then hand stitching them on. But I was able to power through as we finished watching Book 3's final episodes with our boys. They loved every second of it! This arrow detail alone has taken me 4 days and over 10 hours to figure out in order to get the straightest edges possible. I couldn't find anything online to help me even know where to start. I used the front and back of multiple homemade blank charts and crocheted through so many testings. It turned out that all I needed to do was trust my instincts and just crochet. Man, it has taken me 5 starts and restarts to get Appa's face figured out and the proportions the way I wanted them. I've totally forgotten about the arrow's struggle. This completed head is just the base layer for all his separate features like the horns, ears, cheeks, nose, and eyes. I'll add those later but for now, here's an update on my progress and an exhale of satisfaction.
Halloween, my favorite time of the year, is almost here! I just finished a commission of crocheted oranges for someone who likes to start working on their costume early like I do. They are the perfect prop to put her Orange Blossom costume over the top.
